Another day, another fake news story put out there by loonies just out to make a buck. Some of my friends were tricked by a "funny" news site claiming that Facebook was reporting users who posed for pictures with guns to the Department of Homeland Security.
Facebook isn't doing that.
It's fake, it's stupid and I'm tired of it. If you haven't noticed, "parody" news articles have started getting a lot more plausible. That's because someone realized that if The Onion's fake articles could fool us, then they could, too.
The problem is that what these newfangled sites actually do is write fake, terrifying articles while hiding behind parody law. And they earn cash for every click. My advice? The next time you hear something like that on Facebook, keep a Google search window at the ready.
