I'm a big fan of free software. In fact, every day I post a free program for you to enjoy - click here for the latest ones.
The latest major company to offer free software is Autodesk. It makes AutoCAD, the staple program of the architecture/engineering/design industry.
Autodesk also makes high-end computer modeling and animation software 3ds Max and Maya, along with dozens of standalone tools that cover a range of industries and usages from home decorating to movies making to game creation to collaboration.
Together these programs cost tens of thousands of dollars, but students can get them for free. Autodesk also offers tutorials and teacher lesson plans to help students learn the software.
To get the software you need to create an account and prove you're enrolled in high school, college, an active teacher or an representative of a school. The software can only be used for non-commercial purposes.
Still, if you know of a student or teacher, this is a deal they shouldn't pass up. Be sure to share this with them.
