Another Black Friday just passed - I hope you took advantage of all of the great deals. But, if you still need to purchase a few items at the best price, I bet you'll turn to Amazon.
Amazon is famous for delivering great deals to customers on everything from clothes to HDTVs. Now, the online marketplace is trying to make its deals even better by offering handyman services to select customers.
Amazon Local Services is a new product from the company that advertises installations, wall mounting, tech support, general repair services and more from local providers in the buyer's area. There are automotive and lawn and garden services available, too. The ads show up next to related items on the site. There's also a dedicated landing page on the Amazon website to help you find out more about services available in your area.
It's a new way for local providers to advertise their business to clients, and it's a good deal for Amazon, too. The company earns 20% of service charges below $1,000 and 15% of charges over $1,000. Amazon also makes sure the service providers are reliable.
The information mentions that a monthly subscription fee for sellers will be waived through the end of June, 2015. Amazon also says businesses must pass background checks, and in-home service providers must pass a personal background check. Licensing and insurance are required, too.
The program is in beta right now, so it's only available in select cities in nine states. Amazon Local Services is currently testing in certain parts of California, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, New York, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin.
