Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and if you're like many Americans, you may travel a bit before you get to enjoy turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie. Last year, an estimated 43.4 million people traveled away from home on the Wednesday before the holiday. This year is shaping up to be more of the same, with airlines expecting nearly 25 million air travelers alone. Verizon is trying to make that travel go by a little smoother with free data, apps, movies and more to pass the long hours spent in the car or airport terminals.
That's right, the largest cell service provider in the country has labeled the Wednesday before Thanksgiving "Connection Day" and is giving away a ton of freebies to make holiday travel a little more bearable. The giveaway includes free data for Verizon customers, free and discounted apps and access to streaming movies and television shows from Verizon FiOS.
"You think about what typically happens on that day ... It's really the day that America goes mobile," Jay Jaffin, Verizon Wireless' vice president marketing communications, told Mashable. "As a mobile company it felt like a great fit."
The best part is, you don't have to be a Verizon customer to take advantage of some of the offers.
