It's good to know that when creeps get caught, they rarely have a good excuse. But Zak Hardy, an 18-year-old who was caught filming a woman showering in a locker room, had an excuse was too ridiculous to make up.
He said he was checking to see if the phone was waterproof. Really?
The victim of this peeping Tom was showering at a local pool when she noticed the light from Hardy's phone. She quickly covered herself up and reported him to the pool authorities.
Hardy ducked into another shower to hide, but when he came out the authorities were waiting for him. And his phone.
There is no evidence to suggest that his phone was a Sony Xperia, one of the known waterproof phones.
The peeping Tom's excuse was that he was testing to see if the phone was waterproof and accidentally activated the camera as he was drying it off. But this first excuse happened before he got a lawyer.
And before the victim said that the phone was being held above the shower partition.
The court was apparently not amused at Hardy's story, and convicted him of voyeurism. "Hardy was also given a five-year sexual offenses banning order and an 18-month community order. He will be on the sex offenders register for five years. He was also ordered to pay 150 pounds (around $242)."
I think the cherry on top of this case is the lawyer. The Plymouth Herald quoted him as saying of Hardy: "He accepts what he did. It is not the most serious offense, although it was of course upsetting for the complainant."
Of course it was. What a guy.
