Every day, I share with you the very latest on high-tech gadgets that calculate, communicate and entertain us through so many of our waking moments. But as we head into the weekend, I’d like to make a case for this one simple thing.
Go for a walk.
That’s it. No batteries, no screens, no Wi-Fi or any other the other stuff we talk about here so often.
You probably don’t have to be reminded of all the health benefits of just walking 30 minutes a day, like lower blood pressure, improved mood and better cholesterol ratios.
I try to do at least 15,000 steps every day. Sometimes more.
I was sitting with my Mother the other day, chatting about life, when I jumped up because I realized that I still had 2,000 more steps to do before sunset. I explained why I needed to go. She asked, "Isn't there an in-app purchase for that? Say 5,000 steps for $1?"
And here’s one last suggestion. Invite a friend or family member. And talk.
Feel the nip of fall in the air, hear the crunch of leaves under your feet and take some deep breaths of fresh air. You’ll still have hours and hours left in the rest of your day for buttons and gadgets – and I still look forward to helping you get the most out of them every day.
Do you already walk nearly every day? If so, please share with me below what it means to you and why you enjoy it so. Have a great weekend!
