Instantly switch your iPad's data provider

There's a lot of competition out there right now among the major cell service providers in the country. It seems like each service is offering price cuts or cheap data plans to steal customers away from the competition, and it's causing a lot of people to think about switching providers so they can take advantage of the latest deals.

But, switching can still be tough because many smartphones are tied to the provider you bought them from. Apple is trying to change that with a new feature on the brand new iPad Air 2.

Click here to learn more about the iPad Air 2 and two other important announcements from the most recent Apple Event.

Apple's new iPad Air 2 will feature a SIM card that'll work between multiple carriers in the U.S. and U.K., including Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T. That means if you buy your iPad Air 2 through those providers, it'll be easy to switch to one of the other company's plans later on.

This one SIM is currently compatible with AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile in the U.S., and EE in the UK. That list will presumably expand in time, as carriers realize that not being one of the available options is probably bad for business.

The switching process is simple. All you have to do is go into the iPad's settings and click on the Cellular Data Account tab. From there, you'll be able to switch between the list of compatible services. If you're traveling to the U.K., this feature could save you money by letting you purchase a data plan from a local provider during your trip.

Right now, the iPad Air 2 is the only product that comes with this great SIM card installed. But, I bet we'll be seeing on more gadgets like the iPhone in the future, especially if it's a feature customers show that they really want.

Likewise, other cell carriers will probably begin to jump on board soon because this feature could be a major selling point for the competition. Why buy a gadget locked to one service when you can buy the same thing from the competition with the freedom to switch plans whenever you want.

This is an especially cool feature right now because it's becoming easier than ever to switch carriers. Sprint and T-Mobile are even offering to pay your early termination fee if you want to get rid of your old service.

This announcement actually flew under the radar at yesterday's Apple Event. Click here to see my live blog from the event to learn more about all of the products and announcements Apple showed off.
