Win $10,000 with your best nature photograph

Win $10,000 with your best nature photograph
Dave Kan

National Geographic's annual Photo Contest is in full swing. The iconic magazine is giving away $10,000 to the winning photographer plus a free trip to Washington, D.C. The runner-up in each of three categories (people, places and nature) will also win $2,500. Anyone can enter - you don't have to be a professional.

That being said, you'll be up against some stiff competition. National Geographic is posting standout photos from each week of submissions on its website, and boy, are they gorgeous! Here are a few of my favorites:

Mantis Tree Birds Dia De Los Muertos

Not enough? I've got even more for you.

Bear Tree Wildflowers Cowboy

Contest entries must be submitted by October 31st at midnight to be eligible. You'll need to sign up for a user profile at nationalgeographic.com. That part is free, but it will cost you $15 to enter each photograph you submit.

There are several other important rules that you can read in the rules section, like no watermarks, no use of content or brands you don't own, etc. A panel of judges will select the winners on or around November 15th. Click here to visit the official contest page.

You don't need a big expensive camera to win this contest. Click here to check out some incredible photos taken with regular old iPhones.
