Mac users: Watch out! Your computer is vulnerable to the Mac.Backdoor.iWorm virus. This virus, known as a botnet, quietly ensnares your computer and forces it to take commands from hackers.

If the malware manages to sneak its way onto your computer, then hackers can use your computer to send spam, participate in cyberattacks and much more criminal activity. Think of it as turning your computer into a zombie ready to take orders from the hackers.

What's even weirder is that hackers designed the botnet to take its commands from Reddit, one of the largest discussion boards on the Internet.

Researchers for Doctor Web believe that 17,658 Apple computers are currently affected.

While the specifics on how hackers cracked those 17,658 systems is not yet clear, I suspect that Shellshock might be to blame.

If you haven't been following my coverage of Shellshock and you're using a Mac, click here to read this before finishing up this article.

If you have been following my coverage, however, then you already know that Apple has released a patch that will keep you safe. My suspicion is that the people who have been drawn into the botnet haven't updated their systems yet.
