I've shown you more incredible GoPro videos than I can remember. Check out this amazing footage:
These cameras have opened up worlds to us we could never imagine before! They're extremely lightweight, waterproof and nearly indestructible. But more than that, they take very high-quality HD footage. They're so good, they've been used in top, big-budget TV shows and movies.
For months, GoPro has kept its next generation of its award-winning cameras under tight wraps, despite rampant rumor and speculation about them. Now, GoPro has finally released its new line, and at first glance, it looks like they were well worth the wait!
There are three new GoPros: The GoPro Hero4 Black, Hero4 Silver and the confusingly-named Hero. One of them is the arguably the best action camera ever and another is amazing for its incredible price tag of just $130.
Let's start with the GoPro Hero4 Black. This is hands-down the best action camera on the market now. On the outside, it looks a lot like last year's GoPro Hero3+ Black, but inside it's got a beefed-up processor and image sensor. Now you can shoot full ultra-HD 4K video at 30 frames-per-second (fps). That's enough resolution to look crisper than crisp on any Retina display and gigantic HD screens. Check it out, and make sure you click the little gear and select 2160p to see it in 4K:
On top of that, the Hero4 Black can shoot 1080p HD video at 120 fps. That means you can capture high-definition footage and slow it down to super-slow motion - 1/5 the speed at 24 fps. That's different than just slowing regular frame-rate footage down on your computer. It won't look choppy, it will look like professional, smooth Hollywood slow motion. The Hero4 Black will cost $499.99.
The GoPro Hero4 Silver is essentially last year's best GoPro camera, but with a touch screen LCD monitor on the back. One of the features missing from most action cameras has always been a monitor for framing shots and controlling settings. It adds weight and weakness to the body, but now GoPro has apparently solved those problems. You won't find 4K video in the Hero4 Silver, but it can shoot 1080p HD video at 60 fps. You'll be able to get slow motion, but only half as slow as the Hero4 Black. It costs $399.99.
Both new Hero4 cameras are pretty pricey for action cameras. More competition from Garmin, Sony, Polaroid and others are driving prices down. In fact, Polaroid just released a mini HD camera costing just $99. That's probably why GoPro also announced a new camera called the Hero - no numbers - just Hero. It shoots in HD, but it maxes out at 1080p at 30 fps. That means you won't be able to do slow motion in HD. It's a solid, entry-level action camera on par with older models of GoPro cameras, but this one is priced more affordably at $129.99.
