What's the first thing you do when you come home? If you live in Phoenix like me, the first thing you do is adjust the thermostat.
Even though we've finally reached fall, the outdoor temperature is still in the low 100s. Yuck!
Most folks will come home to switch on the lights, adjust fans and the house temperature. But imagine if you didn't have to do that.
Imagine coming home and your lights automatically coming on to the perfect brightness, and your house is already just the right temperature without running up your electric bill.
It's not a dream thanks to this new gadget.
A company called Stack is introducing the latest "smart" gadget in the Internet of Things: The Alba responsive lightbulb. This lightbulb has sensors built in that can tell when someone has entered the room and brightens the room accordingly.
Alba gently wakes you up with soft white lighting in the morning and warms the color temperature in the evening to create a more natural feel to your home. The sensors embedded in the Alba bulb can also tell when someone has left the room, and will shut off accordingly.
And don't worry about changing the lighting for a movie. Alba also responds to ambient lighting and will dim and shut off to give you the best movie experience.
The Alba bulb is set for release in 2015, but you can preorder your own package set of two bulbs and a hub for $150. There is a smartphone app that lets you control your lighting settings from your phone, but Alba learns your habits, so you shouldn't be pulling your phone out very often.
