So what do you get when you cross Iron Man with a Jet Ski? You get a Jetovator of course!

OK, so you are wondering, "What in the world is a Jetovator?"

And who could blame you?

In simple terms, a Jetovator is a high-tech water toy which doesn't just scoot around on top of the water - it actually blasts riders way up in the air. According to Jetovator designer Rob Innes, this Iron-Man style jet pack gives you the aerial capabilities of advanced fighter aircraft. Apparently, for a lot less money and training.

These days, Jetovator rides are becoming the rage among celebrities who are digging the chance to shoot across a lake like Peter Pan or even Luke Skywalker.

How the amazing Jetovator works

The Jetovator did not happen overnight. The idea first came to the creator nearly 20 years ago, yet the first prototype was only built in 2011. The device itself looks a bit like the would-be offspring of a turbo-charged pogo stick and a wheel-less motor scooter.

While it is said that the Jetovator is a bit like riding a bike, this bike is propelled by a 50-foot hose that shoots water to propel the rider into the air. And according to the company, much of the movement is intuitive and controlled by the rider leaning right or left.

Once an individual is comfortable (and I am told it is fairly easy to master), the average person can try stunts like barrel rolls and backflips. What is most curious is that the Jetovator is shown to be much safer than water skiing, wakeboarding, wind surfing or kite surfing, with amazingly a much shorter learning curve.

Now if you do not have a lake in your backyard, you may not see one anytime soon. But next time you take a trip to the lake, the Jetovator might be worth checking out.

Here's a little preview to whet the palette!:
