Apple's big iPhone 6 announcement live blog
Apple

Hi everybody! The live blog is now complete. If you want to follow the announcements as they came up, just scroll to the bottom and read from the bottom up. Enjoy!

  • Thanks for reading.

New U2 Album

  • 11:56 a.m. - Everyone with iTunes, iTunes Radio, and Beats Music just got the new U2 album for free. And that's exclusive through October 13. I am going to have to listen to that.
  • 11:53 a.m. - No strangers to marketing, U2 takes opportunity to announce release of new LP, Songs of Innocence. Nice timing, Bono.

Bono

  • 11:48 a.m. - CEO Tim Cook rolls out legendary rock band U2 on stage to show Apple's continued connection with music. This is the first time that Bono has ever appeared less cool than a wristwatch.

Apple Pay Apple Watch

  • 11:46 a.m. - Very cool note ... Apple Pay works with Apple Watch too.

Charging

  • 11:44 a.m. - It can be yours for the low, low Apple starting price of a mere $349. It will come out in early 2015.
  • 11:41 a.m. - And it comes in three models: Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition. They all work with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5, 5s and 5c. iPhone 4 and 4s are out!
  • 11:40 a.m. - OK, this is cool. The Watch can be used as a walkie-talkie and as a viewfinder for the iPhone camera. (I'm going to need to see that.)

Health tip

  • 11:31 a.m. - You can "Tweet" from your Apple Watch. What's more, there's a Pinterest app, a BMW one that lets you find your car, gives baseball scores, and a Honeywell one that lets you control your thermostat. Oh, and health tips, too.
  • 11:30 a.m. - Apps may be created by third-party developers.
  • 11:27 a.m. - Hoping they clarify the difference between a long press and a force touch on the screen. Sounds a bit confusing.
  • 11:25 a.m. - There's a setting where all your favorite photos will just kind of show up on your phone. Oh, and tiny little maps. Getting lost is soon to become a memory.
  • 11:21 a.m. - Oh, wait. iPhone is "required with Apple Watch." And there is a "taptic" engine that provides subtle vibration you can feel on your wrist for notifications.

  • 11:18 a.m. - Still no price, but apparently there are "millions" of unique designs you can put together to personalize.
  • 11:16 a.m. - Animated Mickey Mouse watch faces, 6 different straps. This is going to be popular ... Check that. Let's find out the price first.
  • 11:14 a.m. - You can send instant sketches to your friends and, I have to say, it is a pretty adorable feature.
  • 11:12 a.m. - Advanced one-touch menu scrolling, wireless charging, Siri, and more. They really went after the Watch project.

  • 11:09 a.m. - Sophisticated sensors collect data from your wrist. And the screen can "feel" your tap to understand which functionality you want to use. That is pretty amazing Apple.

  • 11:06 a.m. - Another look. All actions hinge off the crown (the button on the side.)
  • 11:04 a.m. - Not a "shrunken down" iPhone strapped to the wrist. The Watch has a completely new user interface designed specifically for wearables.

  • 11:01 a.m. - Tim Cook says "One more thing ..." It's Watch time!
  • 11:00 a.m. - Never uses card numbers. Just a one-time payment number and "dynamic security code."
  • 10:58 a.m. - OK, this looks really cool. And if it's as easy as they say, we have a serious, super-secure digital wallet.

Pay Picture

  • 10:55 a.m. - Comes with an NFC chip in the phone. CEO Tim Cook says it's all about user security and user experience.

  • 10:54 a.m. - They're about to debut Apple "Pay"

Fireworks

  • 10:50 a.m. - We even got the cutsie fireworks celebration with Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake giving the Space Odyssey, "Dun, Dun, Dun, Dun."
