R.I.P. Microsoft Messenger. Like Windows XP, its time has run out.

As of October 31, the chat service will be fully shut down, which will send Messenger users to Skype for chatting and video calls.

Launched as a competitor to AOL's instant messenger, AIM, back in 1999, Microsoft Messenger went through various upgrades and makeovers, but in the end, it's not enough to keep the service going.

If you use Microsoft Messenger, it's time to pick a new way to message your friends.
