How many apps have you downloaded this month?
One? Two? Ten?
While Apple has bragged that it's seen 75 billion apps downloaded from the App Store since it began in 2008, you would think the average number of apps downloaded each month would be high, right?
It's not. In fact, it's nothing.
Zero. Yep, that's the average number of apps that the average smartphone user downloads in one month. See the chart below from ComScore and Quartz to see what I mean.
So why aren't smartphone users downloading more apps? The report from ComScore indicates that more than half of people with smartphones use apps every single day. What's more, most apps are free and can easily be deleted if you find them useless.
So what's the deal? According to QZ, it's because most of the apps in the app store aren't useful to a large audience. The majority of smartphone users are sticking to the apps they already have.
