Germans officials are thinking about making the ban a law.

German companies like BMW and Volkswagen have already banned after-hours work calls and emails, and it looks like the rest of the country may soon follow suit. In fact, the ban might even stretch into vacation time.

The laws, if passed, wouldn't take effect until 2015. German labor minister Andrea Nahles has dubbed the idea as "anti-stress" regulation.

According to local reports, the smartphone age comes with real burnout risks — quite a few studies will back this up — and unions are pointing out that people are more productive in their uptime when they have proper downtime too.
