Someone steals a phone and takes photos which are then uploaded to the victim's cloud. The victim notices the photos and uses that evidence to get their phone back and the thieves are caught red-handed and dealt with.
This case however, isn't exactly like the rest.
Larry Beltran Jr. and his girlfriend took a selfie while lying in bed. The photo quickly went viral after a Santa Clarita woman noticed the photos in her iCloud account and contacted authorities. Her home had been burglarized a few days earlier, so she suspected that the couple was responsible for the break-in.
Turns out, Beltran didn't steal the phone, it was a gift from his Aunt who had purchased the phone at a swap meet.
"I didn't steal it, I went to a swap meet and my aunt bought it for me," Beltran told NBC4. "It's embarrassing. I didn't have no idea it would be all over the news or anything, you know? That's just between me and my girlfriend."
Beltran has since talked with authorities and insists that he and his girlfriend are not the thieves. The investigation is still ongoing.
