The great thing about technology is that companies are always finding ways to make it better and cheaper. Whenever a great product comes out, you can bet there are companies out there trying to improve it.
That's definitely true when it comes to hard drives with tons of storage space. A data storage company called Seagate just shipped a hard drive that can hold 8 terabytes of storage. That's the same amount of storage you'd get from 125 64 GB iPhones!
Not only is this the first 8 TB hard-disk drive ever, it's also relatively cheap to run. Massive storage systems like this are expensive to use because they suck up a lot of energy, but Seagate was able to make its new hard drive more efficient.
With its low operating power consumption, the drive reliably conserves energy thereby reducing overall operating costs. Helping customers economically store data, it boasts the best Watts/GB for enterprise bulk data storage in the industry.
So far, Seagate's only shipping to a few preorder customers. But, the hard drive should be available to everyone else over the next few months. Businesses use hard drives like this to store massive amounts of important company information and to offer cloud storage services. Don't know how the cloud works? Click here to find out.
