Geography isn't the only thing that separates one U.S. state from another. You might be surprised to learn that average Internet speeds vary widely from state to state. A "State of the Internet" report released by cloud computing company Akamai Technologies revealed the states with the fastest and slowest average internet speed.

10 states with the slowest average Internet speed

  1. Alaska: 7 MPBS
  2. Arkansas: 7.3 MPBS
  3. Kentucky: 7.3 MPBS
  4. Montana: 7.3 MPBS
  5. West Virginia: 7.5 MPBS
  6. Mississippi: 7.6 MPBS
  7. New Mexico: 7.6 MPBS
  8. Missouri: 7.7 MPBS
  9. Louisiana: 7.7 MPBS
  10. Idaho: 7.7 MPBS

So, the state with the slowest Internet gets about 6 megabits per second less than what the states with the fastest Internet are working with.
