Digital thieves have hit the phone lines. Two New Jersey residents have reported receiving calls from hackers claiming that the victim had a computer virus. The scammer supposedly remotely operated a victim's computer to spook them into giving up their personal information.
With his victim still on the line, the scammer transferred money into a Western Union account and left his victim high and dry. While I respect the hustle of cold-call phishing, this dangerous new tactic could fool many more people before it's stopped.
Remind your friends and family to keep their personal information to themselves. Even if an unseen hacker's hand makes their mouse move.
