Looking for a new lunch spot or the best places to visit on your vacation? Now, Google Maps can help.
The new version of the app for Android and iOS can give you suggestions for restaurants, activities and more based on your location, the time of day and the weather.
Maps will now have an Explore button the bottom right side that you can use to find places in your area.
The results you get in Explore not only tell you what’s nearby—and you can decide if “nearby” means a five-minute walk or a 20-minute drive—but they actually change based on context like the time of day and the weather, too. So don’t worry about wandering over to a breakfast spot for dinner, or arriving at the park just in time for a thunderstorm. You’ll get best results when you’re signed in with location reporting and history turned on.
With Android gadgets, you can also get information about the place you are at with the My Location features. It can show you reviews for the restaurant you are at or what time the next train is set to arrive while you wait at the station. You can also confirm the places you actually visit, so your recommendations will become more accurate.
This seems like a pretty useful tool, especially on those nights when you don't know where to go to eat. It's also a pretty good way for Google to gather even more of that information about what you spend your money on that it loves.
