It's not quite cutting the cord, but some cable companies are making it easier for you to get HBO without paying for hundred of cable channels you don't want.
Sadly, HBO doesn't sell its HBO Go online streaming service directly to customers. You only get a login if you purchase HBO through your cable provider. That used to mean purchasing a big cable package that could cost you between $150 and $250.
Not anymore. AT&T, Comcast, Time Warner and Verizon are all now offering cheaper packages that cut out a lot of those expensive channels that you don't even watch but still include HBO and its online service.
But in recent months, many big cable companies have wised up that they might lose a slowly growing niche of cable-cutting customers. Several of them now will sell a package that include just Internet, HBO (and HBO Go) and the most basic of TV. You’re not exactly without cable TV, but you’re with much, much less of it.
