America the beautiful isn't always full of sunshine and rainbows. There's lots of dark and gloomy things to worry about, too. Snakes and spiders, lions, tigers and bears (OK, maybe just bears), hurricanes, murderers, meth labs and even clowns are just a few on that list.
Taking that into consideration, Estately, a real estate search site, set out to find the scariest state in America. All 50 states were ranked based on the presence of the following fear factors: Bears, clowns, prison, flying, hurricanes, shark attacks, spiders, snakes, dentists, tornadoes, heights, meth labs, lightning, volcanoes and murderers.
So which is the scariest state in America? Drum roll please ...
It's Florida! The state's profile on the Estately site reads:
The most dangerous state in America is the most likely place to experience a real life Sharknado. Or even a Sharkicane. Both are sometimes accompanied by Sharkning, which is terrifying.
Hurricanes—1st, Shark Attacks—1st, Tornadoes—1st, Lightning—3rd, Spiders—5th
Rounding out the top 10 are:
- North Carolina
- South Carolina
