In a bid to overtake Twitter as the social media site with the highest celebrity usage, Facebook has announced a new app specifically for celebrities.

It's called Mentions, and this Facebook app is only for high-profile individuals like radio hosts, professional athletes, actors, politicians, celebrities and other public figures. The app is currently only available to verified public figures on Facebook, like me!

Celebs can use Mentions to see a filtered view of fan activity, join conversations, and even host live Q&As right from their iPhones. Facebook has also added a two-step verification process to keep hackers from hijacking the page.

How are the celebs taking to Facebook Mentions?

“My fans are so important to me,” [singer Austin] Mahone said in a statement. “They’re the reason why I make music, and I love sharing my life with them. (Facebook) Mentions has made it even easier to keep my fans updated on what’s going on in my world, and to respond directly to their posts.”

This looks like a fun app to try! I love connecting with my fans and helping people embrace technology. I'll see you on Facebook!
