Two things the Internet will always have plenty of is cats and new technology. So why not bring the two together?
A Taiwanese-based IndieGoGo campaign has some cool new tech designed with your feline friend in mind. Bistro: The Smart Feeder has specially-designed facial recognition technology just for your cat.
Why does a cat need facial recognition technology for its food bowl? The idea for the design came about from a near-fatal incident of a cat who wasn't eating, but because there were three cats in the house her condition wasn't noticed until it was almost too late.
The cat in question, Momo, recovered and is doing very well, but the scare prompted her owner to do something about it. How can you make sure that your cat is getting all the food and water she needs when you're not home?
That's where Bistro: The Smart Feeder comes in. The facial recognition technology recognizes your individual cats and dispenses food based on a diet you program on the Bistro app.
Bistro includes a scale that monitors your cat's weight, and can tell you how much food and water is being consumed at every sitting. The data goes straight to the Bistro app on your smartphone or tablet, so even when you're not home you can see how much your furry friends are eating and drinking.
Bistro's camera can also connect to the app and let you watch your cats when they're enjoying mealtime or a sip of water from the moving water fountain. It's a neat idea for monitoring your cats when you're on vacation or at work for long hours.
Bistro: The Smart Feeder is designed with a food hopper, a food and water tray with sensors, a weighing scale and a camera to track your kitty's daily food and water intake.
The Bistro smart feeder recognizes your cat's face and tracks their profile.
The Bistro food and water bowls are located inside the housing for the camera, making for accurate recognition. Your feline friend must also step on the scale to activate the Bistro, ensuring that their weight is calculated every time.
When your cat is done using Bistro, the feeder sends the information to the Bistro app on your phone and keeps track of how much you cat consumes on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Every cat has its own profile, so there's never any confusion about who is eating what, especially in a multicat household.
