A Palestinian drone was launched and flown into Israeli airspace Monday, but it didn't stay there for long.
"It was shot to smithereens," said Israeli army spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner. "We had it in our sights the moment it took off, and we chose where to intercept it."
It was reported that the wreckage of the drone fell into the Mediterranean, away from civilians. Some pictures also indicated that the drone may have been armed.
This is the latest escalation between Hamas and Israel after the deaths of three Israeli teenagers and the revenge killing of a Pakistani teenager by individuals earlier this year.
This also marks a milestone in unmanned combat. Now drones can be used cheaply, and can even be built instead of bought. Cheap drones mean that you don't have to have a well-funded military to use drones, they can now be made and controlled by guerrillas.
The United Stated and the UN are working hard to make at least a ceasefire happen between Palestine and Israel, but it may be a while before both countries can be reconciled, or justice sought for the deaths of these four teenagers.
