Nest, maker of the popular smart thermostat, just bought Dropcam for a cool $555 million. If you haven't heard of it, Dropcam makes Internet-connected home security cameras.
It appears the Google, which bought Nest a few months ago, wasn't involved with this purchase.
Nest hasn't said yet what it will do with the Dropcam cameras, but Nest already makes smoke and CO2 alarms. You can check these for danger, and get your home temperature settings as well, on Nest's app already.
It wouldn't be a stretch for Nest to integrate Dropcam as a security system add-on. With that in place, Nest is well on its way to building its own smart house system.
It isn't alone, of course. Apple recently announced HomeKit, and there are plenty of Internet-connected gadgets and appliances coming to your home soon.
