The Nest smart smoke alarm is out of exile. It's back, better than ever, and cheaper than ever.
You might remember, a few weeks ago, Nest recalled ALL of its smoke alarms over concerns of a "failure to sound alert" caused by a flaw in the "Wave" feature, which disables sounds with hand gestures.
No incidents have been reported, but Nest didn't want to take any chances. It recalled all 440,000 machines and, starting today, a new Nest model is on shelves, without the Wave feature.
Since the Wave feature has been disabled, the price has gone down, too. Older models sold for $129 and the new model is $99. The new model includes features that let you control the alarm using a remote, has a built-in nightlight, and will give you spoken warnings.
