Microsoft has a new commercial that isn't having quite the effect it intended.
Until last week, gamers buying Microsoft's Xbox One were getting the Kinect. The Kinect adds motion tracking and voice commands to the game console.
One of those commands is "Xbox, turn on." It means you can turn on the gadget without getting up and pressing the power button. The other thing to know is that even when it's off, the Xbox is listening for this command.
In Microsoft's latest commercial for the Xbox, the actor - Aaron Paul - actually says "Xbox, turn on." So if the ad comes on TV and an Xbox One with a Kinect is nearby, your Xbox will turn itself on. There's nothing you can do to stop it.
I bet Microsoft is wishing it had programmed in the voice command, "Give Microsoft money."
Still, Microsoft obviously didn't think this one through. I guess Xbox One owners will want to mute their TVs the next time they see Microsoft's logo.
