The horror movie isn't over yet. Last week, I told you about the scary Internet meme Slender Man and how two 12-year-old girls in Wisconsin stabbed a classmate 19 times and left her for dead in the woods - all in order to become a "proxy of Slender."
This week, a 13-year-old girl in Cincinnati attacked her mom with a knife in the name of Slender Man, a mythological meme created in a paranormal Photoshop contest back in 2009.
In this case, the girl was dressed as one of Slender's proxies, wearing a hoodie and a white mask. The mother said her child was not acting like herself - it seemed as if she really wasn't there. The girl, however, has no memory of the incident.
All the details certainly match up to the Slender myth. According to forums, blogs and YouTube videos on Slender Man, the creature stalks and traumatizes his victims and has the ability to give you "slender sickness" which causes insomnia, memory loss, paranoia, coughing fits, and in most cases, you don't act like yourself at all.
It all goes to show that the Internet can be a scary place and serves as a reminder that we need to monitor our children's Internet usage.
