Is it possible that a cop could glance at your face and instantly pull up your entire history? It could be soon in the United Arab Emirates.
Police officers in Dubai have been outfitted with Google Glass on a trial basis. They've been using them exclusively in traffic applications so far. Glass has been used to identify wanted cars and record photos and videos of traffic violations.
Gulf News interviewed Dubai Police's General Director of Smart Services, Col. Khalid Nasser Al Razooqi:
As for determining whether a car is wanted or not, Col. Al Razooqi said that all the officer needs to do is look at number plates and the Glass will cross-reference the plates with the traffic department’s wanted vehicles database and alert him if any vehicle is wanted.
So far the use of Glass is limited, but you can imagine the potential for privacy violations if it goes into widespread use not just in Dubai, but in America, too? Would you want your local police service wearing Google Glass? Let me know in the comments section below.
