Think that selfies and hashtags are just passing fads? Think again.

The tech world has heavy influences in pop culture, and now the English language will forever recognize those influences.

That's because the Merriam-Webster Dictionary has added the following tech terms to its 2014 online and print edition:

Selfie - "an image of oneself taken by oneself using a digital camera especially for posting on social networks”

Hashtag - "a word or phrase preceded by the symbol # that classifies or categorizes the accompanying text [such as a tweet]"

Merriam-Webster added tech terms like "crowd funding," "tweep," and "catfish," too.
