Last month, Microsoft released a massive update to Windows 8.1 called Windows 8.1 Update. At the time, Microsoft said that users who didn't install Update wouldn't receive future 8.1 updates like new security fixes.

Well, just like how Microsoft bent its rules to update XP one last time, Microsoft has extended the 8.1 Update deadline.

While we believe the majority of people have received the update, we recognize that not all have. Having our customers running their devices with the latest updates is super important to us. And we’re committed to helping ensure their safety. As a result, we’ve decided to extend the requirement for our consumer customers to update their devices to the Windows 8.1 Update in order to receive security updates another 30 days to June 10th.

So get to it! If you haven't updated Windows 8.1 yet, you have until June 10, and then you won't be able to get any updates at all.

If you're still using Windows 8 without any of the 8.1 updates, you don't have to worry about this. However, 8.1 brings back some of the features users were missing from Windows 7 and earlier, such as booting to the Desktop, universal taskbar and more. So you might want to update anyway. Click here to learn what else Windows 8.1 gives you.
