Would you quit your job for $5,000?
In his annual letter to shareholders, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos detailed a program called "Pay to Quit." Once a year, Amazon will be offering its warehouse employees money to quit. The first offer is for $2,000, and every year the offer goes up $1,000 until the maximum offer of $5,000 is reached. The goal is to make sure that employees really, really want to work at Amazon.
From the letter:
The headline on the offer is “Please Don’t Take This Offer.” We hope they don’t take the offer; we want them to stay. Why do we make this offer? The goal is to encourage folks to take a moment and think about what they really want. In the long-run, an employee staying somewhere they don’t want to be isn’t healthy for the employee or the company.
