Over the next five or 10 years, we're going to see some highly entertaining lightbulb wars.
Here's a salvo from Samsung, the South Korean manufacturing giant.
The company says the new Samsung LED "Smart Bulb" has these features:
- 15,000 hours of life
- Bluetooth capability
- Dimming control
There will also be spotlights and tube bulbs.
The downside is that you apparently need to buy some sort of Samsung hub to control the thing via Bluetooth. But the app will control up to 64 bulbs.
As time goes on, we'll see these household hubs and apps give us more and more control over our surroundings.
My worry is that there's going to be a lot of "churn" before we all agree on an easy-to-use home standard.
I would love to have one central app from which I could control my thermostats, home-security system and lights, for example, but I'm not looking forward to having to run them from three separate apps!
