It's been rumored for months. Do you use Amazon Prime? If the answer is yes, you are about to pay a bit more for your membership.
Amazon announced it's increasing the price of an Amazon Prime account from $79 to $99 for an annual membership. The student version will be raised as well, to $49. The higher fees will take effect when members come up on renewal.
Membership includes access to streaming video, Kindle libraries and free two-day shipping on select items from the marketplace. That's a deal a lot of people took the company up on, and one that it obviously thinks it can get away with charging more for. The company has also started commissioning its own shows for its video library, following Netflix's lead.
