How would you like your Internet to be 100 times faster? When Google Fiber is your ISP, you can download a full-length HD movie in seconds. While any other ISP will advertise their Net speeds in the Megabits-per-second, Google Fiber offers Gigabit-per-second speeds. Here's a handy chart from Netflix showcasing the power of Fiber.
Unfortunately, Fiber is currently available Kansas City, with Austin and Provo slated to be fully wired with fiber optic cables soon. But that's all about to change. Google announced plans to bring Fiber to nine additional metro areas. Check out this map of proposed expansion.
None of these cities are locks yet. The local governments will have their say and you can be sure the regional providers won't take this lying down.
There's currently no pricing information on how much Google Fiber will cost in your area. In Kansas City, subscribers pay $70/month for Gigabit Internet or $120/month for that plus HDTV. Or, customers can choose to pay a one-time fee of $300 and receive 5 Mbps Internet free for seven years.
