Are you excited for the new iPhones yet? We know, it can get confusing in iPhone rumor land. The Apple grapevine can be a maze of conflicting reports, incredible theories, fan-fueled fantasies and far-fetched concepts.
The general consensus is that Apple is going to release three different iPhone models in 2018.
One model is an updated version of the current iPhone X while another model is a 6.5-inch “iPhone X Plus” with an OLED display (like the iPhone X).
The third (and most interesting) model is a 6.1-inch iPhone with an LCD display and a lower price point than the OLED models.
All these models are expected to have updated features like Face ID, advanced sensors, and edge-to-edge displays.
Despite this constant flow of rumors, fans, as usual, can’t seem to get enough of it. For the multitudes of Apple faithful who are waiting for the next big thing – speculating about the next iPhone is fun and it’s actually an integral part of the gadget’s consumer life cycle.
Now, iPhone fans will have something more tangible to get excited about! A new leaked video may just have shown a detailed look at Apple’s three new iPhones coming this year.
Final design of the new 2018 iPhones?
Mac Otakara, a famous site for Apple leaks and rumors, just released a video that claims to show a detailed look at the 3-D schematics of the three new iPhones pegged for this fall.
The site wrote that the “final design” schematics have already been circulating through the Asian supply chain since last week. It’s typical that Apple releases these specifications to their manufacturing partners so hardware parts and accessories can start their production.
Another thing that these schematics and dimensions allow is the fabrication of highly detailed and accurate 3-D mockups.
As you can see, the final sizes of the rumored 6.5-inch OLED and 6.1-inch LCD iPhones are slightly smaller than the earlier leaks.
Updated iPhone X
Based on the leaked schematics, this year’s updated 5.8-inch iPhone X model will have dimensions of 43.65 mm by 72.03 mm by 7.69 mm thick.
These figures suggest that this model may be 1 mm wider than the current iPhone X but Mac Okatara noted that the difference may be due to the button heights.
Mac Okatara also successfully used an iPhone X case with the 3-D mockup so this means the new model’s physical specs are virtually unchanged from the current model.
6.4-inch OLED iPhone
The schematics of the larger 6.4-inch OLED iPhone model indicate dimensions of 157.53 mm by 77.44 mm by 7.85 mm thick.
This means this model will be close to the size of the current iPhone 8 Plus, which is about 1 mm shorter, 1 mm wider and .35 mm thinner. As such, iPhone 8 Plus cases can’t be used on the 6.4-inch OLED iPhone.
Now, with its edge-to-edge screen, this model will surely have the largest and most glorious iPhone display ever.
Another interesting spec of this model is its asymmetrical bottom holes. The size of the rear dual-camera system appears to be the same as the iPhone X.
6.0-inch LCD iPhone
The third model shown by the leaked video is the 6.0-inch LCD iPhone. This model will have dimensions of 150.91 mm by 75.72 mm by 8.47 mm thick.
This means it will be larger than the iPhone X but smaller than the 6.4-inch OLED iPhone and the iPhone 8 Plus. This model will be noticeably thicker too.
On this model, the SIM tray is located on its bottom side. The rear camera is also slightly bigger than the iPhone 7’s (sadly, no dual-lens system).
These 3-D mock-ups pretty much confirm everything we know about the new iPhones so far. We’re still hoping that the prices for the OLED models will be a bit cheaper this time around.
