New iPhone has major flaw, Apple says a fix is coming

Are you one of the proud new owners of the iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus? You’re probably enjoying all the new improvements it has over its predecessor, the iPhone 7  – faster A11 Bionic processor, TrueTone and HDR compatible display and, of course, the introduction of wireless charging.

We know, for gadget lovers such as ourselves, a brand new smartphone is always a joy to behold.

However, it’s not all gadget honeymoon joy for several iPhone owners.

Audio crackling issues

Several reports on MacRumor’s support page are claiming that their new iPhone 8s are suffering from crackling and popping noises during phone calls and FaceTime calls, specifically when using the earpiece.

The audio issue seems to happen intermittently with one user stating that it’s happened one out of three calls. The problem also doesn’t show up when a call is on loudspeaker mode.

It’s still not clear what’s causing the issue but it looks like it affects both iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus and it is happening across different carriers across the globe.

Here’s a video of what the iPhone 8 crackling issue sounds like:

Apple’s response

Apple stated that it is aware of the issue but it is only happening in a small number of cases. The company is currently looking into the problem and is working on a software fix.

“We are aware of the issue which is affecting customers in a small number of cases,” Apple said in an official statement. “Our team is at work on a fix, which will be included in an upcoming software release.”

Note: A staff member here at actually has a new iPhone 8 Plus and she has not experienced any audio problems as described. She actually claims that her iPhone 8 Plus has the clearest earpiece sound on a smartphone yet.
