There is a rumor going around that Facebook is going to make another huge change to your News Feed. It has to do with the videos that you watch on the site.
What’s changing with Facebook’s News Feed
CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that Facebook users are watching 100 million hours of video on the site every day. The site’s policy has been to forbid pre-roll advertising on all videos. These are ads that run before the actual video begins.
Now, Facebook will start testing a new mid-roll format on videos watched on the site. This will allow video publishers the opportunity to insert ads into their clips once the viewer has watched at least 20 seconds of the video.
Facebook is going to sell the ads and share the earnings with video publishers. The publishers are expected to receive 55 percent of the sales. This is the same share of revenue that YouTube offers.
Until now, video publishers have seen almost zero ad revenue from clips shown on Facebook. Video publishers and media outlets have been pressuring Facebook to come up with a way to make money from their content. This change could open the floodgates to the number of videos placed on Facebook.
As we said earlier, this is just a rumored change at this time. Facebook has yet to comment on the speculation.
Even if the advertising rules are revised, I’m not sure it will change the fact that people just love Facebook. It might even be time to start creating your own videos and get in on the action.
