Leaked Samsung Galaxy Note 8 images reveal stunning new design

You can say that last year’s Galaxy Note 7 fiasco was one of Samsung’s biggest crises ever. With multiple reports of overheating and exploding handsets, the company was forced to recall millions of the doomed devices until it decided to ultimately end its production entirely. With a crisis of that magnitude, some questioned the company’s ability to bounce back from such circumstances.

Fortunately this year, with the success of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, Samsung has proven that it can rebound with what it does best – make some of the best gadgets around.

Now that Samsung has finally moved on from the Note 7 fiasco, it looks like the tech giant already has the Note 7 successor in the pipeline, ready to win the hearts of phablet fans once again.

Is this the Galaxy Note 8?

Twitter user “Ice Universe” (@UniverseIce) posted three images recently that are claimed to be that of Samsung’s next big phone, the Galaxy Note 8.

One of the images appears to be a Korean teaser ad while two show the front display protective case for the alleged Note 8.

If the leaks are authentic, it looks like Samsung is taking the same direction with Galaxy Note 8 as it did with the Galaxy S8 by equipping it with an “Infinity Display” – an edge-to-edge screen with virtually non-existent bezels.

A report from The Korea Herald seems to agree with the leaks. According to the report, a video posted on the Chinese social networking site Weibo showed what is claimed to be a Samsung Galaxy Note 8’s 6.3-inch front panel. Yep, you read that right, 6.3 inches! That easily trumps the Note 7’s smaller 5.7-inch display, making it the largest smartphone display ever released by Samsung. It won’t retain the Note 7 display’s aspect ratio, though, rather it will follow the S8 and S8 Plus displays’ 18.5 to 9 width-to-length ratio.

The same report also stated that the Galaxy Note 8 will likewise adopt a dual-lens rear camera, a trend popularized by the iPhone 7 Plus. The Note 8’s dual-lens camera is predicted to feature a 12-MP wide-angle lens and a 13-MP telephoto lens.

The Samsung Note 7 is expected to be released in the second half of this year, around the same time as two other flagship smartphones – Apple’s iPhone 8 and LG’s V30. However, rumors are stating that Samsung is planning on unveiling the Note 8 in late August, ahead of the likely iPhone 8 unveiling in September. Similar to Samsung’s current line of flagship smartphones, the iPhone 8 is expected to have a similar edge-to-edge display.

Speaking of edge-to-edge displays, LG’s V30 is also expected sport the same with what the company dubs as “Full Vision Display.” If you can recall, LG was actually the first company to implement dual cameras in its smartphones. LG’s G5, G6 and V20 smartphones already had dual cameras on both front and rear, way before Apple adopted the system with the iPhone 7 Plus.
