iOS 11 includes much needed safety feature

I’m sure you’ve heard by now that it’s the 10-year anniversary of the iPhone. Apple is expected to dazzle us with a new premium model sometime this Fall. Click here to learn about leaked iPhone 8 features.

Not only do we have new iPhone models to look forward to, but a new operating system is on the way as well. iOS 11 will be released later this fall, however, you can click here to learn how to get it before everyone else. Now, we’ve learned iOS 11 will include a much-needed safety feature.

iOS 11 safety feature

What we’re talking about is a new feature that allows users to bypass TouchID. iOS 11 will come with an Emergency SOS option. When the feature is enabled, it automatically dials the number for emergency services, depending on location. Obviously, in the U.S. it’s 911.

The new feature is designed to help someone in trouble contact emergency services more quickly. To activate the feature, simply tap the sleep/wake button rapidly five times. That action bypasses TouchID and your gadget calls 911.

Once activated, a warning sound will play, along with a brief countdown before calling 911. If you don’t have Emergency SOS enabled, you can still access the feature.

Tap the sleep/wake button five times and a screen will appear with an SOS slider. Just swipe the slider from left to right and your phone will dial 911. Two more sliders will also appear, one to power off your gadget and one to access your Medical ID.

This feature disables TouchID and to get back into your gadget, you’ll need to enter your passcode. It could be a lifesaver during an emergency situation.
