Do you remember how chaotic it could be driving around unfamiliar cities before Google Maps came into your life? I sure do!
My first road trip to San Diego turned into a nightmare. Trying to navigate the area while reading from an old-school paper map didn’t work so well. Fortunately, my group didn’t end up driving into the ocean.
We’ve come a long way since then. In fact, Google is working on a huge new Maps feature that might help keep you from ever getting lost again.
You’re going to love this!!!
You may have gathered that I am a big fan of Google Maps. However, there are some things about the navigation tool that could use some improvement.
For example, when you’re driving around an area that you’ve never been before, Maps might tell you to turn left at Spiced Wine Avenue. The problem is, you have no idea where Spiced Wine Avenue is, especially if it’s dark outside and street signs aren’t well lit.
Well, we’re in luck. Google is apparently working on an update for Maps that would be a major help to its users.
The new feature will use local landmarks to help you navigate, making it easier to understand directions. Instead of telling you to turn left on a street you’ve never heard of and don’t know where it is, Maps will tell you to turn left just past the Starbucks.
This would be a major improvement. Now, rather than trying to read street signs in the dark you can just look for the Starbucks to know where you’re headed. How cool is that?
Little enhancements like this are what make Google Maps an essential app for travelers. It’s more than just a navigational tool also. Click here to learn 12 Google Maps tricks you’ll use time and time again.
