Smartphones are expensive, no matter which brand or operating system you have. While cases and protective layers are available, some users still manage to drop and break their devices.
Since smartphones are crucial in everyday life, you don’t want to be without yours for too long. When it breaks, or the screen shatters, it could mean a few days or a week in the repair shop.
Count yourself lucky if you have never dropped a mobile phone. Read on to see which cities have the most butter-fingers per capita in the country.
Here’s the backstory
When realizing that your phone is slipping out of your hand, it can seem like the world is moving in slow motion. You have a rush of panic and dread, which is quickly replaced by a thud or crack that sounds expensive.
For the most part, people tend to look after their phones or take steps to prevent severe damage. But no matter what they do, five cities in the U.S. are more prone to dropping their device than the rest of us.
Mobile phone insurance company Asurion looked at its repair and claims data and noticed a peculiar trend: people in southern states drop their phones a lot. In a blog post, the company revealed the clumsiest cities:
- New Orleans, LA
- Raleigh, NC
- Jacksonville, FL
- Richmond, VA
- Atlanta, GA
But before you take any of those cities off your visit list, there are a few explanations. According to Asurion, things like weather, sports, and residents’ average age all play a factor.
Which cities are the least clumsy?
As for the cities that hold on to their phones the tightest, there doesn’t seem to be a geographical correlation. According to the research, the least clumsy cities in terms of mobile phone insurance claims are:
- San Francisco, CA
- Chicago, IL
- New York City, NY
- Seattle, WA
- Tulsa, OK
