Apple announces new iPads with features you’re going to want

We knew they were coming, and knew Apple was going to announce the next must-have products of the season. On Monday, Apple revealed its new slate of iPads, which includes a 10.5-inch iPad and iPad mini.

The main new feature is that both items now support Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard, which allows them to not only consume content but create it as well.

Not only are they bringing Apple Pencil support but they are also increasing the power and performance with the compatibility for new visual support as well.

“Today the iPad family takes two big leaps forward with an all-new 10.5-inch iPad Air that brings high-end size, features and performance at a breakthrough price, and a major upgrade to the 7.9-inch iPad mini, which also brings Apple Pencil, Retina display and the A12 Bionic chip to the many customers that love its compact size,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

What’s new for this generation of iPad?

The new iPad Air is introduced with a larger, ultra-thin 10.5-inch design. But what is does it offer?

  • Apple Pencil support for notepads, sketching, writing on the go
  • 70% boost in performance and twice the graphics capability
  • Advanced Retina display with True Tone technology
  • Almost 20% larger display with over half a million more pixels than previous models

The new iPad mini is touted as a powerful multitasking machine. All of these featured are promoted as better than the previous models. But just what are those new features?

  • Capable of delivering three times the performance and nine times faster graphics
  • 25% brighter advanced Retina display with True Tone technology
  • The highest pixel density of any iPad, delivering an immersive visual experience in any setting
  • Apple Pencil support for notepads, sketching, writing on the go

We know the main feature is pushing new content creation tools with both devices now supporting the Apple Pencil, but what else do they collectively provide?

What does Apple Pencil do?

Apple Pencil allows for new possibilities for creation for users of the iPad. It will enable you to draw, writing down thoughts, markup documents and retouching photos. It becomes a new alternative option for those that are students, professionals and creatives looking for a natural drawing experience. They explain too that it supposedly provides pixel-perfect accuracy and low latency for applications as well.

New advanced camera features

The new iPads are outfitted with advanced front and back-facing cameras, that take great photos and capture clear and stable 1080p HD videos. The upgraded cameras provide exceptional low-light performance and HD video recording. Other features for the camera’s use are the document scanning feature and for connecting with friends and family through the Group FaceTime calls. With the addition of advanced sensors, it can also help enable immersive AR experiences. All welcome enhancements to the new devices.

“iPad continues to provide magical new experiences for a growing range of uses where it is the absolute best device, from playing games in augmented reality to note-taking and drawing with Apple Pencil, from streaming HD movies and editing 4K films to learning to develop apps with Swift Playgrounds,” said Phil Schiller.

What’s the price and when can you get one?

Both the iPad Air and iPad Mini are available in a variety of different configurations and colors. They start at $399 for the new iPad mini and $499 for the new iPad Air. Apple stated both iPads are available and can be pre-ordered today as well as be in stores next week.
