Fast, free and simple way to share your GPS location

We all have that one friend who is always late. Wouldn’t it be great if we could see exactly how far away they are and get an accurate ETA? Or what if you want to make sure your kids made it safely to their destination?

One app can answer all these questions and then some, as it gives you a glimpse of someone’s real-time location. Glymspe allows users to share their location and request the location of another person. You can download it for free from iTunes and the Google Play store.

Getting started with using the app is so easy because you don’t need to create an account. However, you need to give it access to your location, contacts list, and allow push notifications. I don’t normally like to give apps too much access to my phone, but with Glympse, it’s necessary in order to get the most use out its features.

  • Without access to your location, you can’t share where you are but you can see locations shared with you.
  • Without access to your contacts list, you have to manually enter in the phone number or email address of the person you want to find or help find you.
  • Without enabling push notifications, you can’t receive alerts about other people’s location.

To let someone know where you are, click the menu section in the top-left corner and then hit “Share Location.” Start typing a name in the contacts bar and it will populate with options from your list. Select a friend, type in a meetup location, and then choose how long (a few minutes or few hours) you want to share your location for. You can even select a generic message or type in a custom one.

The person you send your location to will receive it through a text message. Then they can click the link to view a map of where you are. It will say how fast you’re traveling to the meetup location, when they can expect your arrival and how long the information is being shared. And the best part is, they don’t even need to download the app to view these things. Once you arrive, you can stop sharing your location.

To find out where someone is, click the menu section in the top-left corner and then hit “Request Location.” Then choose a friend from your contacts list and hit send. You’ll be transferred to a texting screen where you can type in a custom message before sending your request.

You can also view past location shares and requests, look at a map of your area, and link the app to social media profiles.
