Creative way to make your computer stand out

Have the itch to redecorate your house, but don’t have the time or money? Redecorate your computer instead; it’s free and only takes seconds.

Put down the tape and streamers, I’m talking about swapping your computer’s desktop theme.

Anyone with Windows 7 or newer can alter everything from your background to your window colors, fonts and sounds, too.

Windows coordinates things for you, via its themes, which pull these elements together into one slick look. That way, you don’t end up with a bunch of mismatched fonts and backgrounds that don’t look good together. Plus, themes don’t have to include just one desktop image; they can cycle between many related pictures to add spice to your life.

Windows has several themes built in, but you can download dozens more from Microsoft’s site. Just browse the categories on the left of the page, and click Details to preview each theme’s collection of wallpapers.

Note: Be sure to check that the theme you like is compatible with your current OS. If the theme is not compatible, you will not be able to download it to your computer or install the theme.

Download Instructions

To download a new theme for your computer, click the link we’ve provided below inside the blue box. If you’re reading this article using the app, you might not see the blue box. If so, click here and you will see it.

When you’ve found a theme that you like, click “Download” under the picture. Your download should begin immediately. When the download is complete, open the downloaded file and Windows should take care of the rest quickly and automatically for you.

Your computer will automatically set the new pack to be your default theme. If you want to change it, simply change the settings in the Personalization file under Control Panel.
