With Windows 10, it's easier than ever to find a specific file or application. Just use Cortana or type in a few letters on the menu search bar to locate anything that resides on your computer.
Windows Vista and 7 users, though, are still stuck with the old way of doing things. It's either searching through file explorer or browsing through the items on the Start Menu or desktop just to find a specific application or file.
Thankfully, you can replicate Windows 10's effortless search feature on Windows 7 or Vista with this little utility called Launchy.
With Launchy you can launch any document, folder, application or bookmark with just a few keystrokes. It quietly indexes your computer files in the background for quick launching. This way, you can just summon them by holding the Alt key and the spacebar on your keyboard.
Start typing a few letters of the name of the application or file you are searching for and hit enter once Launchy finds it. This will automatically launch the program, document or file.
Launchy will only work on Windows XP, Vista, 7 , Mac OS X and Linux. Windows 8 or 10 users, need not apply.
The program is also on a "Pay what you want" system. You can donate, but downloading it for free does not impose any limitations.
To try Launchy, click on the provided link below and select "Latest Stable Version." Download the installer, run the file, agree with the License Agreement then click through the installation process.
