We all love fonts. Especially unique fonts that make websites and posters and flyers stand out. There are do's and don'ts, of course, but if you're getting creative, you might want to go hunting for the perfect new font (or more than one) for your project.
Many sites charge for fonts, and if you're going to use a font for a commercial purpose, rather than personal use, you'll likely have to pay for it. But we've found a site that offers more than 1001 free fonts, with more being added every day. (Don't worry, you download the fonts individually, so you won't have 1,000 fonts you don't want because of the one font you do want.)
1001 Free Fonts breaks its offerings into categories. You can browse basics like sans serifs, serifs or scripts, or more obscure categories like distorted/eroded, tattoo or sci-fi. If you are looking to use new fonts commercially rather than for personal use, the site offers a package of 10,000 fonts for $19.95 that can be used for either purpose.
To start browsing all of the free fonts available, just click the appropriate blue button below. When you see a font you like, click 'Download' and you'll get a .zip file containing TrueType fonts, the standard for both PCs and Macs. Open the .zip file and you'll see the font files. If you have Windows 7 or newer, just double-click each font file and select 'Install,' then restart your computer. For Mac users, double-click the font file and click 'Install,' then restart the desktop applications you want to use the fonts in.
