Windows Vista doesn't have the greatest legacy, but it's not without its merits. One thing about the old operating system that many people enjoyed was the Desktop Gadgets feature. Sadly, Microsoft got rid of those gadgets in Windows 8.
But, gadget lovers aren't completely out of luck. I've found a free download called Sidebar that can fully integrate those Desktop Gadgets into Windows 8 and the forthcoming Windows 10 operating systems.
The program comes with several gadgets pre-installed, including a calendar, clock, CPU meter, currency converter, RSS feed, puzzles, slideshow and weather app. Using the gadget menu, you can easily pin any of those gadgets right to your desktop.
You can also add even more gadgets to your computer using the "Get more gadgets online" link in the gadgets menu.
